Nephrology Organization Expands Access with Acquisition of Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Global Vascular Solutions

Global Vascular Solutions, an owner and operator of outpatient surgery centers for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, recently launched with the acquisition of three ambulatory surgery centers in the Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona markets. GVS is a division of Global Nephrology Solutions (“GNS”), one of the largest physician-led and physician-owned kidney care platforms in the United States.

GVS acquired the three centers located in Peoria, Tempe, and Tucson from Arizona-based SKI Vascular Center, a GNS partner practice. The acquisition brings nearly 50 employees to GVS and serves more than 2,500 patients annually.

“GVS aims to become a national leader in transforming the delivery of outpatient surgical care for ESRD patients,” said Nick Carlucci, Senior Vice President of Ancillary Services and Growth Operations. “Our partnership with SKI Vascular strengthens our commitment to reducing costs through driving better outcomes, decreasing hospitalizations and improving the patient experience.”

This strategic move further demonstrates the company’s position as a leading kidney care platform that is focused on value-based care and expands the scope of services for nephrologists and their patients. GNS brings deep experience in value-based care through its participation in CMMI ESCO models and plans to launch CKCC value-based operations in four markets, including Arizona, on Jan. 1, 2022. Through access to ambulatory surgery centers, ESRD patients benefit from minimally invasive procedures that produce better outcomes, lower readmission rates and, ultimately, improve quality of life.

Rajiv Poduval, M.D., FASN, founder and CEO of GNS, said, “Purchasing the ambulatory surgery centers allows us to remain committed to our physicians and patients through every step of their treatment, from office visit to bedside. At GNS, we know that keeping our providers at the center of care delivery and empowering our patients are both key in kidney care.”

Carlucci continued, “With the launch of GVS we now have an opportunity to partner with a leading team of physicians and clinicians that are committed to providing the highest level of patient care and surgical outcomes. We are thrilled to begin working with SKI Vascular as a premier ASC platform that will help us scale our footprint nationally and further support our growing nephrology network.”

In the future, GVS has plans to expand its presence into additional states, particularly where they have affiliated GNS practices. This will develop an integrated kidney care platform to support the delivery of value-based care in the markets that GNS serves.

GNS is one of the nation’s leading physician-led nephrology organizations, with over 400 providers and 800 employees, supporting nephrologists who provide care across 12 states. The company remains committed to keeping nephrologists independent, relevant, and at the center of patient-care delivery. The GNS value-based care delivery platform is driven by proprietary, predictive data analytics and clinical workflows underpinned by one of the world’s largest clinical chronic kidney disease (“CKD”) data warehouses that enable nephrologists to deliver better patient outcomes and value-based care.

A division of GNS, GVS offers a spectrum of the most advanced surgical procedures for patients who suffer from kidney disease in the United States. Its procedures prevent and treat dialysis access related complications and various vascular diseases in ambulatory surgery centers. Through its partnerships with leading nephrologists and ambulatory surgery centers, GVS aims to become a national leader in transforming the delivery of outpatient surgical care for ESRD and CKD patients.
