Banner Ironwood Medical Center broke ground on a project that will add more than 32,000 square feet. The expansion is a direct result of nonprofit Banner Health’s mission to address growing community needs for accessible, quality healthcare.

The facility, located at 37000 N. Gantzel Road, will add a new two-story building to its existing emergency department to include an interventional radiology suite with pre- and post-op space, as well as additional room for future growth. The project will also expand the emergency department lobby to better serve patients and improve their experience from the moment they walk in.

“As a fully integrated nonprofit healthcare system, every dollar Banner generates is reinvested back into our communities — not shareholders,” said Darren McCollem, chief executive officer of Banner Ironwood. “This project is a reflection of our commitment to giving back to the Queen Creek community, and we’re proud to grow alongside it since we first opened our doors here over a decade ago.”

With the additional space, aspects like wait times, privacy and capacity for critical patients will improve and create a smoother, safer patient care experience leading up to discharge. Project work is being led by Archsol for architecture and Mortenson for construction, with completion slated for December 2027.
