Partnership Meant to Attract More Young People to the Building Trades

NAIOP

The Arizona Chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, has announced a partnership with Build Your Future Arizona (BYF Arizona), whose mission is to attract more young people to the building trades profession due to the labor shortage in construction.

BYF Arizona seeks to create a sustainable and skilled craft workforce by creating awareness about high paying construction careers and training opportunities and by mapping career paths to employment in these high demand occupations.

“As Greater Phoenix attracts more businesses from around the world, the demand for skilled tradespeople is expected to grow,” said NAIOP Arizona President & CEO Suzanne Kinney. “We are proud to partner with BYF Arizona to introduce young people to rewarding and meaningful careers in construction, where they can truly be a part of building our beautiful city.”

A talent shortage is a growing concern for General and Sub Contractors. It has already been the cause of delays in a multitude of projects, from home renovations to large-scale commercial construction.

Construction companies are working hard to meet the increasing demands of the economy. The Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation is working to help alleviate this talent shortage through the BYF Arizona career awareness campaign.

“Demand for talent in these careers is high and continues to grow. By December 2024, we will need 228,000 craft professionals in Arizona,” said Todd Sanders, president & CEO of the Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation. “The sooner we can drive people to these high-wage, high-potential construction careers, the faster our city and our economy will grow and thrive.”

BYF Arizona is led by an industry steering committee comprised of leading employers who have invested in the effort to inspire the next generation of craft professionals to construct a career. Currently there are hundreds of available construction positions available in Arizona. To search available jobs, visit the BYF Arizona Career Center here.
