The 023 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Awards, created in spring 2011, recognize nonelected public servants contributing to their communities and civic life, and collectively building a bright future for Arizona. The awards are named in honor of Gabe Zimmerman, whose life was taken in a mass shooting on January 8, 2011, while serving the citizens of Arizona as Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ Community Outreach Director.
