Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GNCA) announced that Tim O’Neal, President & CEO, has been honored with the prestigious P.J. Trevethan Award for 2024. This esteemed award is presented annually to one Goodwill CEO from across the national network of over 150 organizations, to recognize their outstanding contribution to the training of their own team and their contributions to leadership development across all Goodwills.
Named in honor of the late P.J. Trevethan, former CEO of Goodwill Industries International, Inc. (GII), the award commemorates his legacy of dedication to the advancement of Goodwill team members. Trevethan’s commitment to excellence and his vision for empowering individuals through training initiatives left a lasting impact on the Goodwill community.
Tim O’Neal’s receipt of the P.J. Trevethan Award is a testament to his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the professional development and training of his team of more than 6,000 team members, as well as potential future CEOs and other leaders in Goodwills across the country. O’Neal has fostered a best-in-class culture of learning and growth within the organization.
Tim began his career in thrift retail operations at 18 receiving drop-off donations. He held progressive roles at Goodwill and was named VP of Retail Operations in 1999, during a time when the local nonprofit was in financial trouble. Under his leadership, the organization increased retail revenues by 3,000%. Tim was selected as CEO in 2015, and by 2017 had fully rebuilt Goodwill’s culture strategy and continued to fulfill its commitment to learning and development. Over the last nine years, he has encouraged open feedback within Goodwill, and built a world-class team to implement innovative training programs and initiatives aimed at equipping employees with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
Under Tim’s guidance, new team member support initiatives launched including MyCareerMatters, a Leadership Academy, mentoring and job shadowing program, team building activities, retail management training, executive coaching and talent development and succession planning. Through his vision, O’Neal has empowered countless individuals to reach their full potential and achieve their career goals within the Goodwill network.
“I am thrilled to honor Tim O’Neal with the P.J. Trevethan Award for his exceptional contributions to the training of so many members of our Goodwill family,” said Dan Owen, CEO, Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley. “Tim’s passion for a culture of continuous learning and professional development has made profound change across our organization and in the communities we serve.”
The presentation of the P.J. Trevethan Award was made at the Annual Conference of Executives held last week in New Orleans, Louisiana.
