Avnet and the Arizona Cardinals partnered to bring STEM to life through football. Together, the organizations hosted a STEM event for the Boys & Girls Clubs Parsons Branch in Phoenix. During the event, attendees at the Boys & Girls Club summer camp aged 8 to 15 had the chance to meet Big Red and Cardinals Cheerleaders and take part in the day, which also included a series of programming alongside STEM Sports.
The event kicked off with a warm-up for attendees to learn about the importance of warming up their muscles for activity. The kids then participated in four activity rotations, each aligned with a different part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) acronym:
- Science: Campers learned about mass and weight with an activity throwing and catching footballs made from various materials
- Technology: Avnet volunteers helped the kids build a circuit with batteries and foil to create a light up football
- Engineering: Participants made field goal posts and paper footballs to learn about the engineering design process.
- Math & Science: Kids got active and got their heart rate going to learn about calorie burning as it relates to food intake
