Spectrum Medical Care Center, a nonprofit healthcare provider serving Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community, announced the opening of PrideCare Rx at its new Central Phoenix campus, located at 3003 N. 3rd Street. PrideCare Rx is the first piece of Spectrum Medical’s new campus that will provide comprehensive, culturally competent care for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.

With PrideCare Rx, Spectrum Medical aims to go beyond the traditional pharmacy model of filling prescriptions. Instead, patients will receive support like medication navigation, insurance coordination and hands-on patient support from a team who understands each patient’s unique needs and goals. Pharmacy care is also coordinated directly with each patient’s Spectrum Medical team. The difference this kind of care makes is measurable: a 2024 study in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association found that 96.8% of transgender and gender-diverse patients felt an LGBTQ+-focused pharmacy understood their needs, compared with just 51% at other pharmacies.

“Our patients have spent years navigating healthcare systems that weren’t built with them in mind, having to explain themselves at every turn, chase down prior authorizations, or wonder if a pharmacist will understand what they’re being treated for and why,” said Mark Moeremans, CEO of Spectrum Medical Care Center. “PrideCare Rx creates a more connected experience for our patients and lifts the burden off of their shoulders. It’s a small shift with a real impact and it’s part of a bigger vision for what this new facility can be for our community.”

“I believe pharmacy care should go beyond the counter,” said Van Lieu, Pharmacist-in-Charge at PrideCare Rx. “Every patient who comes through our doors deserves a pharmacist who sees them fully and understands what they’re going through, not just what’s on their prescription label. I’m excited to build that kind of relationship with our patients and to be part of a care team that’s genuinely invested in getting people the support they need, not just the medication they came in for.”

PrideCare Rx is the first service to open inside Spectrum Medical’s new Central Phoenix campus, which will also offer primary care, HIV/STI care and treatment and a first-of-its-kind Queer gynecological care initiative, built specifically for LGBTQ+ women and individuals with cervices. The full facility is set to open in early 2027 and is intentionally designed to support a more inclusive, trauma-informed patient experience.
