The Phoenix Industrial Development Authority  has named Anna Maria Maldonado as its new Community Investment Director, strengthening the organization’s leadership team as it continues to expand strategic investments and partnerships that create economic opportunity throughout the community.

Maldonado officially joined the Phoenix IDA in late August, after serving as a consultant to the organization for several years. In her new role, she reports to the Chief Investment Officer and supports the development and implementation of the Phoenix IDA’s strategic and community investment initiatives.

“Anna Maria already knows our organization, our partners and the communities we serve, and we are excited to welcome her to the Phoenix IDA team in this expanded leadership role,” said Juan Salgado, CEO of the Phoenix IDA. “She has an exceptional ability to bring people and organizations together around a shared purpose. Her experience building partnerships across the public, nonprofit and private sectors will be an important asset as we identify new opportunities to deploy resources and investments where they can have the greatest community impact.”

As Community Investment Director, Maldonado will develop and strengthen relationships with government agencies, school districts, nonprofit organizations and private-sector partners to expand access to capital and advance investment in underserved communities. Her responsibilities include government affairs, public-private partnerships, strategic planning, community investments and administration of the Phoenix IDA’s sponsorship program.

Maldonado is a serial entrepreneur with extensive experience in business development, community relations and strategic partnerships. Her commitment to community service and advocacy is rooted in the legacy of her parents, who were social justice advocates.

A native Phoenician and fifth-generation Arizonan of Mexican American descent, Maldonado was Jesuit educated throughout her academic career. Her diverse professional background includes positions in local government, political campaigns, advertising agencies and a Hispanic chamber of commerce.

For much of her career, Maldonado has served in executive leadership positions with several Fortune 500 Medicare and Medicaid managed healthcare organizations, where she led teams focused on growth, acquisition, community relations and strategic partnerships.

“I am honored to officially join the Phoenix IDA after having the opportunity to work alongside the organization as a consultant for several years,” Maldonado said. “Phoenix is my home, and I am passionate about creating partnerships that connect people and communities with opportunities and resources. I look forward to building on the Phoenix IDA’s work and collaborating with our partners to advance investments that make a meaningful and lasting difference.”
