Waymo, the world’s largest fully autonomous ride‑hailing service, will expand its Phoenix service area by an additional 55 square miles, bringing its total Valley footprint to more than 350 square miles.

Riders can now hail Waymo across several newly added East Valley neighborhoods, including Gilbert, more of Chandler, and out to San Tan Ranch. With Phoenix‑Mesa Gateway Airport soon joining Sky Harbor and Scottsdale Airpark. Once Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is added as a stop, in the near future, Phoenix will stand as the city with the most airport access to Waymo in the world.  The expansion closer to Waymo’s Mesa facility also allows vehicles assigned to its Phoenix fleet to drive themselves out of the facility and directly into service. In fact, these vehicles can pick up their first public passengers within minutes after leaving the factory.

This expansion marks a meaningful homecoming for Waymo. The East Valley is where the company had its first riders, first trips, and first community partnerships back in 2020, and Waymo is excited to return with a larger, more capable service that reflects years of intentional scaling, infrastructure development, and continued commitment to safety.

As Waymo grows globally, the company remains focused on deepening service in the communities that shaped its earliest milestones. Today, riders across the Valley rely on Waymo for thousands of weekly trips, from daily commutes to airport travel to nights out across Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale.
