InMedia Company announced the return of Rick McCartney as Chief Executive Officer and President following a year-long leave of absence during which he sought to represent Arizona’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. While his Primary campaign did not make it through to the General Election, McCartney’s message of practical solutions, civic engagement and economic empowerment resonated with thousands across the district and will now help shape the next chapter of the company he founded nearly 30 years ago.

McCartney returns with an ambitious vision to expand InMedia Company’s role as one of Arizona’s leading voices in business, public policy and community leadership.

“I entered public service with one goal—to help create a New American Era,” said McCartney. “An era that unites rather than divides. One that focuses on solving the real issues affecting Arizona families, strengthening our economy, and creating opportunities for everyone. While that pursuit won’t continue from elected office at this time, it will continue through InMedia Company. We have an extraordinary opportunity to convene leaders, tell the truth, elevate solutions, and create meaningful change through journalism, dialogue and action.”

As part of its next phase of growth, In Business Magazine will significantly expand its editorial coverage while continuing to strengthen its highly regarded Valleywide Daily Newsletter, one of Arizona’s most widely read business publications. The publication will deepen its engagement with business, government, nonprofit and community leaders to deliver insightful reporting, thoughtful analysis and solution-oriented conversations that help strengthen Arizona’s economy and communities. Just as importantly, the directive will be to listen—to community members, industry leaders and those whose voices are too often overlooked—bringing people together to identify practical solutions and create opportunities that empower businesses, nonprofits and the people they serve throughout Arizona.

“Rick’s return gives us an opportunity to build on what our readers already trust while expanding the ways we serve Arizona,” said RaeAnne Marsh, Editor-in-Chief of In Business Magazine. “We will continue producing thoughtful, high-quality journalism that helps leaders understand the forces shaping our economy and communities. At the same time, we will create more opportunities for people to exchange ideas, confront difficult questions and build partnerships that move Arizona forward. Our role is not only to inform, but to connect people and help turn insight into action.”

InMedia Company has also completed its move to an expanded headquarters on East Shea Boulevard in North Phoenix. More than a newsroom and office, the new space will serve as a convening center for business executives, public officials, nonprofit leaders, journalists and community innovators. It will host conversations, forums and collaborative gatherings designed to build relationships, develop ideas and advance solutions to the issues shaping Arizona’s future.

A central part of InMedia Company’s next chapter will be the creation of a new public policy institute focused on Arizona’s future. Developed in partnership with leaders from business, government, philanthropy and civic organizations, the Institute will use research, public dialogue and cross-sector collaboration to examine the state’s most pressing challenges and advance practical, actionable solutions. Details regarding its leadership, initial areas of focus and inaugural programming will be announced in the coming months.

“Arizona is growing and changing too quickly for our institutions to simply observe from the sidelines,” McCartney said. “This moment calls for urgency, honesty and a willingness to bring people together around the hard questions. Through our journalism, research, events and public conversations, The Institute will help people understand what is changing, elevate ideas that deserve serious consideration and create the conditions for meaningful action.  We will move with urgency, lead with integrity and remain accountable to the people and communities we serve.”

Founded more than three decades ago, InMedia Company has informed and connected Arizona’s business and nonprofit communities through its publications, newsletters, podcasts, events and community initiatives.  Under McCartney’s renewed leadership, the company will build on that foundation by expanding its journalism, growing its signature events, developing new multimedia platforms and creating forums where leaders can move beyond conversation, build partnerships and advance solutions to the issues shaping Arizona’s future.
