Design trends and home prices have seen dramatic shifts over the past four decades, but what’s remained constant in Arizona’s always-evolving real estate scene is Cullum Homes’ commitment to delivering the finest homebuilding experience from start to finish. It’s a sentiment that’s driven Rod & Kim Cullum since they founded the luxury homebuilding company back in 1985, and it’s one they still rely on 40 years later as the foundation for every home, relationship and future they build today.
What began as a home-based, two-employee operation has since grown into one of Arizona’s most celebrated and respected family-owned design and construction firms, serving Phoenix’s most sought-after neighborhoods, with projects in Paradise Valley, Scottsdale and Desert Mountain. Known for maintaining the industry’s highest standards in craftsmanship, fit and finishes, and design quality, the firm continues to set the benchmark for luxury homebuilding in the Valley. This focus on quality and consistency has earned the luxury homebuilder considerable recognition at the local and national levels, with Cullum taking home a “National Custom Home Builder of the Year” nod from the National Association of Home Builders.
That reputation is built not only on what Cullum creates, but on how each home is brought to life. The Cullum Way defines how every home is brought to life, delivering the finest home-building experience through a carefully coordinated, in-house process. Architecture, design, construction and home care work together as one integrated team, ensuring clarity, consistency and collaboration at every stage. Technology supports this process, and Cullum was among the first to adopt Ressio, a collaborative project management platform that allows homeowners and the Cullum team to communicate, track progress and stay connected throughout the build in a clear, user-friendly way. By aligning every trade involved and maintaining a sharp focus on detail, each home is crafted around the homeowner’s lifestyle, resulting in a finished home that feels both intentional and deeply personal.
The same commitment to excellence that guided Rod and Kim Cullum since day one also continues under Cullum’s second generation of leadership, with daughter Lindsay Cullum-Colwell and her husband, Paul Colwell, serving together as co-presidents.
“Hitting the 40-year mark is incredibly meaningful for our family,” said Kim Cullum. “From the beginning, we set out to create a building experience that puts homeowners first, and that approach continues to shape what we do today. Seeing the next generation carry it forward while continuing to raise the bar makes this anniversary especially rewarding.”
Arizona’s luxury real estate market has remained resilient despite broader national shifts in homebuying, a trend reflected in Cullum successfully closing out multiple signature neighborhoods, including Village at Mountain Shadows, Paradise Reserve and Cholla Heights. The company also saw notable activity at Ascent at The Phoenician®, including the sale of its highest-priced home to date, an $11,466,089 custom estate. Cullum continues to see strong momentum across its active neighborhoods as well, highlighted by a successful summer at Seven Desert Mountain, with four move-in-ready homes sold. Together, this performance underscores the strength of the Cullum brand and its ability to deliver thoughtfully designed, move-in-ready homes in some of Arizona’s most sought-after locations.
“The Village at Seven Desert Mountain really shows how much personalization and customization is possible, even on a smaller lot footprint,” said Scott Grigg of Grigg’s Group Powered by The Altman Brothers, referencing one recent home sale in the neighborhood. “The sold property with the car bar is a great example of how thoughtful design can incorporate everything an owner wants, from added parking, entertainment spaces and basements while preserving the ease and flexibility of a lock-and-leave lifestyle.”
Building on that momentum, Cullum currently offers a limited collection of fully furnished, move-in-ready homes alongside select available homesites for future custom builds across its active neighborhoods. Current opportunities include two move-in-ready homes at
Ascent at The Phoenician®, two move-in-ready homes at Seven Desert Mountain and one move-in-ready home at Ironwood Golf Villas, with available homesites offered at both Ascent at The Phoenician® and Seven Desert Mountain. These offerings provide buyers with the flexibility to move in immediately or thoughtfully plan a custom home within Cullum’s most established communities.
While Cullum has much to celebrate from the past year, the year ahead brings even more to anticipate. There are three new Signature Neighborhoods currently in development, each thoughtfully planned for sought-after locations across the Valley. Together, they represent the next chapter of Cullum’s commitment to purposeful growth, timeless design and building in only the most exceptional places.
Cullum will continue to expand two dedicated divisions, Cullum Care and Renovations. Cullum Care focuses on ongoing maintenance, warranty support and long-term home care, and is expanding its footprint beyond Cullum-built homes to serve homeowners seeking the same level of trusted expertise, proactive care and white-glove service. The Renovations division specializes in full home remodels and large-scale transformations, helping homeowners reimagine and elevate their spaces as lifestyles and needs evolve. Together, these divisions extend the Cullum relationship across every stage of homeownership, offering continuity, expertise and long-term value.
Cullum Homes will also continue its commitment to serving the community in the New Year, maintaining its existing relationships with a variety of local and national causes, including Habitat for Humanity Central Phoenix, The Phoenix Theatre Company, The Heart Ball, PANDA and ChildHelp.
“We wouldn’t be here without the confidence our clients placed in us or the people who’ve helped shape Cullum Homes over the past four decades,” said Rod Cullum. “From our employees and trade partners to the community that stands behind us, we’re truly thankful. We’re proud of what we’ve built, and we’re excited for our future.”
