SRP announced today a contribution of $10,000 per year or $50,000 over five years to financially support the City of Tempe’s Non-Residential Landscape Conversion Rebate program. SRP is also contributing $10,000 per fiscal year or $50,000 over five years to the city’s Cooling Tower Rebate program for non-residential customers.

The Non-Residential Landscape Conversion Rebate program offers an incentive for Tempe’s commercial water customers to convert to desert-friendly landscaping in an effort to encourage water conservation. For commercial properties, Tempe provides a rebate of 50 percent of the landscape conversion cost (excluding tax), up to $20,000 when converting live turf to desert landscaping. Commercial properties can apply here.

“We commend the City of Tempe for their innovative rebate programs that offer commercial customers ways to save money and water,” said Leeann Yacuel, SRP Senior Water Planning Analyst. “It’s critical in this arid environment to invest in ways to save water.”

The Cooling Tower Rebate program offers a rebate of 50 percent of the purchase price (up to $50,000 per project) for cooling tower upgrades. The qualifying technology includes remote read cooling tower controllers, sub-meters and any technology proven to increase cycles of concentration.

In addition to cooling towers and landscape conversion, Tempe offers a variety of water rebate options including those that support toilet replacements, high-efficiency turf irrigation upgrades and more. Tempe’s Water Conservation program offers free water consultations, informational resources, workshops and customers access to WaterSmart, a free portal for tracking water use.

Tempe is dedicated to educating the community on the importance of water conservation. For more than 30 years, Tempe’s Water Conservation Program has educated the community through program planning, educational workshops and newsletters, rebates, consultations and more.

“Tempe recognizes that water is a precious natural resource to be used wisely, which means we must continue to plan and prepare for water resiliency for generations to come. Partnerships like what we have with SRP are important for encouraging water-wise practices within our communities,” Mayor Corey Woods said. “Tempe is honored to receive this funding from SRP and we appreciate the opportunity to make water-wise practices more affordable for our community.”
