Phoenix-based Mission Facilitators awards their 2023 Excellence in Leadership Award to Brian Murray, CEO of Ryan Companies. The goal of the award is to give back to a person who has not only made a big impact on Mission Facilitators, but on the community and employees they serve.
“In thirty-one years, I have never met a leader who so courageously made mental health a platform for his or her leadership as Brain Murray. Most of us have experienced depression at one time or another in our lives, but few of us admit ever being depressed or discuss it. Brian has released the genie from the bottle, and now the Ryan culture embraces the notion it’s okay to admit to and talk about depression, which has resulted in tremendous loyalty, trust, and open dialogue on all issues,” said Dean Newlund, Mission Facilitators CEO and executive facilitator, coach, and author.
In the category of transforming a company culture, Brian has lead the way in:
- Making mental health a core part of his company’s culture,
- Keeping employees focused on values and behaviors during choppy waters in the market,
- Investing in leadership and team development,
- Encouraging vulnerability and authenticity,
- Promoting the concepts while living the behaviors he promotes.
“I’m honored to be given this award. But the real credit goes to the men and women of Ryan who work every day to make Ryan an authentic and purposeful place to work,” said Murray. Newlund interviewed Murray on the subject of leadership, creating mental health-friendly cultures and engagement on his podcast, The Business of Intuition.
