The Arizona Pet Project Chosen as Mentorship Partner by The Humane Society of the United States 

The Arizona Pet Project is proud to announce that it was awarded the Pets for Life Mentorship Grant to provide community outreach and pet owner support in South Phoenix communities. The program is sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States.

Leanna Taylor, CEO of  The Arizona Pet Project, says, “In 2021, we opened the first-of-its-kind bilingual resource center in South Phoenix to bring resources and support to pets and their families in our community. Opening a center in the middle of a pandemic was bold, but we knew the need was great and that if we built it, community members and funding partners would come. A year later, we are thrilled to announce the Humane Society of the United States is assisting us in expanding outreach and services to families and pets in a high-need area.

“The Arizona Pet Project has demonstrated an impressive initiative to address the inequity in access to pet resources that people in underserved areas experience,” said Amanda Arrington, senior director of Pets for Life. “The Humane Society of the United States is proud to support The Arizona Pet Project in working towards a more just and fair animal welfare movement.”

Thanks, in part, to the Humane Society of the United States, The Arizona Pet Project will provide free vaccines and spay/neuter surgeries, urgent veterinary care for sick and injured animals, pet food, supplies, and general pet-related information. Families can also access support and resources for the entire bonded family through their veterinary social workers.

Driven by social justice, the Pets for Life philosophy and The Arizona Pet Project recognize that a deep connection with pets transcends socio-economic, racial, ethnic, and geographic boundaries, and no one should be denied the opportunity to experience the benefits and joy that come from the human-animal bond. *
