Nearly 150,000 February Appointments Booked at Two State COVID-19 Vaccination Sites

More than 5,200 Arizonans will receive their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine every day next month at State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

“The nearly 150,000 appointments available in February for first doses have been booked at the two state-run COVID-19 vaccination sites,” said Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). “It’s clear from this response that there is great demand for COVID-19 vaccine, and that’s great news for Arizona,”

“The only limitation to how much we can expand our capacity is the number of doses our federal partners make available to Arizona,” Dr. Christ continued. “When more vaccine is available, we will further ramp up our efforts and provide more appointments at the state’s two vaccination sites.”

In addition to the appointments made today, ADHS has reserved February appointments for those who receive their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at State Farm Stadium. Those individuals will receive emailed invitations to register for this reserved block of second dose appointments.

Since Monday, Jan. 11, more than 40,000 Arizonans have been vaccinated at the 24/7 State Farm Stadium site. The state will open a second vaccination site on Feb. 1 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, with appointments available during daytime hours.

Across the state, more than 297,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far to 255,275 Arizonans, including 36,375 who have received both doses.

Governor Ducey and ADHS have taken other steps over the past week to dramatically expand vaccination capacity:

• County health departments across the state are also working to expand appointment availability at their sites.
• Arizona has activated the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Retail Pharmacy Program which will add up to 100 pharmacy stores providing vaccine over the next few weeks. When the program is fully activated, more than 800 pharmacies will have COVID-19 vaccine available in Arizona.
• There are over 200 vaccination sites statewide that have received vaccine, including 45 Community Health Centers.

Groups prioritized to date include: frontline healthcare workers, emergency services workers, and residents and staff at long-term care facilities (in Phase 1A): and protective services workers; K-12, university, and community college educators; childcare workers; and adults 65 and older (prioritized Phase 1B). As of Tuesday, Jan. 19, an estimated 750,000 additional Arizonans 65 and older became eligible to register for a vaccination appointment. Each county’s current vaccine phase is listed on the ADHS website, which is updated daily.
