Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona has received $50,000 from the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture to provide one-time emergency relief grants to nonprofits and arts and cultural organizations during COVID-19. Free Arts utilized the funds to help move their programming online.
“We are so appreciative of the City of Phoenix emergency funds,” said Alicia Sutton Campbell, executive director, Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona. “Fortunately, we were able to shift programming online to serve children and adults during the pandemic. We know it’s been a stressful time for all and our programming is needed now more than ever, art is one way to cope and heal.”
Due to the precautions necessitated by the onset of COVID-19, Free Arts has moved nearly all programming to online platforms since mid-March. They estimate that 154 traditional activities were cancelled between March and September, resulting in 2,707 children not being serving in a traditional/in-person way. However, with creative, agile, and thoughtful planning over the last 16 weeks, Free Arts has been able to serve 3,929 children and adults throughout the State of Arizona with alternative programs such as take-home art projects, virtual theatre camp, and a single-agency version of Multicultural Arts Camp.
