Why is honoring achievement important? How does it impact our business community?
Honoring achievement is important because it recognizes the time, dedication and positive impact individuals have on the people and organizations around them. Recognition reinforces the behaviors and values that contribute to success, while increasing engagement, motivation and a sense of purpose. When people feel appreciated for their contributions, they are more likely to remain invested in their work, support one another and help create a strong organizational culture.
Beyond the workplace, recognizing achievement strengthens the broader business community. Celebrating leaders and changemakers shines a light on organizations that are making a difference and inspires others to pursue excellence. It also creates opportunities for new connections, collaboration and the sharing of ideas. Those relationships often extend beyond business goals, leading to greater community engagement and philanthropy. When we celebrate achievement, we elevate not only individuals but the communities they serve.
What is the single most important thing you have learned throughout your career that would inspire others/other women?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that leadership starts with emotional intelligence. The ability to understand, connect with and genuinely care for the people around you amplifies your impact, whether you’re navigating challenges, pursuing ambitious goals or leading through change. When you take the time to see the human in front of you, you build trust, strengthen relationships and create an environment where people feel valued and supported.
I’ve also learned that the most effective leaders are authentic and practice true servant leadership. Leadership isn’t about personal success; it’s about helping others succeed. Be yourself, lead with integrity and focus on giving your team the tools, resources and encouragement they need to thrive. When you invest in others and help them reach their full potential, both people and organizations achieve far more than they ever could alone.
What do you think we can do – now – to make a difference for young people/women in Arizona?
One of the most impactful things we can do is invest in the next generation through mentorship. Every young woman deserves to see examples of what’s possible and have someone who believes in her potential. A mentor can provide encouragement, share experiences and offer guidance during pivotal moments.
Making a difference doesn’t always require a significant investment. It can start with a conversation, a willingness to listen or a commitment to help someone navigate a challenge. As leaders, we have a responsibility to create opportunities, open doors and help others build the skills and relationships that will support their success.
When we invest our time and knowledge in others, the impact extends far beyond any one individual. We strengthen our workforce, our communities and the future of Arizona by helping young people realize their potential and believe in what they can achieve.
