Phoenix Children’s is launching its Journey to Magnet, a multi-year enterprise initiative designed to advance nursing excellence, strengthen patient outcomes and further elevate the quality of care delivered to children and families across Arizona. To celebrate, PCH50 is making a $1 million investment to support the organization’s ongoing pursuit of Magnet designation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®.
“At Phoenix Children’s, our nurses are at the heart of every patient experience,” said John R. Nickens IV, President and CEO, Phoenix Children’s. “The Journey to Magnet reflects our long-term commitment to investing in our people and advancing the highest standards of pediatric care. We are grateful to PCH50 for their partnership in support of our vision to improve the health of a generation.”
This investment represents a significant early milestone in Phoenix Children’s Journey to Magnet and helps lay the groundwork for initiatives that will strengthen professional governance, evidence-based practice, nursing research, leadership and workforce development.
Magnet designation is considered the gold standard for nursing excellence. Organizations that achieve Magnet recognition demonstrate excellence in patient care, nursing leadership and professional practice while creating environments that support better clinical outcomes, higher workforce engagement and continuous innovation.
The initiative will build on the strong foundation already established by Phoenix Children’s nurses while creating new opportunities to support career development and clinical excellence.
“Today marks an exciting and meaningful moment for nursing at Phoenix Children’s,” said Dianne Bennett, DNP, EMBA-HA, APN, CENP, Interim Chief Nursing Executive and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services. “Our nurses already deliver extraordinary care every day. Pursuing Magnet designation will strengthen our practice environment, expand opportunities for professional growth and ultimately improve the experience and outcomes of the patients and families we serve.”
PCH50 is a community of philanthropic leaders who invest their time, talent and resources to advance the mission of Phoenix Children’s through fundraising, advocacy and strategic support for initiatives that improve children’s health.
“Phoenix Children’s has long been a source of hope and healing for families across Arizona,” said Chris Hanrahan, PCH50 Mission Chair, “PCH50 is proud to support the Journey to Magnet because we believe investing in nurses is investing in every patient and family they serve. We are honored to help advance nursing excellence and contribute to a stronger future for pediatric health care.”
The $1 million investment from PCH50 will support staffing resources, readiness assessments, nursing research, professional practice infrastructure and expert guidance throughout the Magnet designation process. These efforts will help strengthen care delivery, workforce engagement and patient outcomes across the organization.
