Vidhya Kannan has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of East Valley. In her position as CEO, Kannan will oversee all of the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 70-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 5652 E. Baseline Road in Mesa. She assumed the position on June 7, 2021.
Kannan first joined Encompass Health in June of 2010. During her 11 years at the healthcare system, Kannan has served in various clinical leadership positions, including the director of therapy operations at the hospital in Northern Virginia. In this role, she successfully led multiple high impact projects and served on the diversity council. Kannan assisted the CEO through an organized hospital restructure plan to eliminate a budget deficit and completed multiple cross-departmental trainings. In the past year, she led the hospital through a series of challenges that were the result of the COVID-19 pandemic and navigated through the Virginia Health Department’s expectations while implementing multiple changes for the safety of the staff and patients. Prior to her time with Encompass Health, Kannan worked at the Center for Advanced Orthopedics and Pain Management in Ashburn, Va., as well as multiple other physical therapy and rehabilitation facilities throughout her career.

Kannan earned her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy at The T.N. Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in India and her doctorate in physical therapy at Shenandoah University. She is also trained in Neuro Developmental Techniques.
