Marcus & Millichap (NYSE: MMI), a leading commercial real estate brokerage firm specializing in investment sales, financing, research and advisory services, announced today that Cliff David and Steve Gebing have been named executive managing directors. The executive managing director designation is the highest designation a Marcus & Millichap investment professional can attain. Of the firm’s over 2,000 investment sales and financing professionals, only 32 hold the executive managing director distinction. Previously, David and Gebing were senior managing directors. They specialize in multifamily investment sales in the Greater Phoenix area with the firm’s Institutional Property Advisors (IPA) division, which utilizes Marcus & Millichap’s vast network to serve institutional and high net-worth investors.

Business partners and friends for decades, former college roommates David and Gebing have closed $7 billion in multifamily sales on behalf of clients.

“Cliff and Steve have raised the bar for everyone in our industry,” commented Ryan Sarbinoff, vice president and regional manager of Marcus & Millichap’s Phoenix office. “The tireless energy and enthusiasm they bring every day is an inspiration to all of us. The level of attention to detail and thoroughness with which Cliff and Steve study their market gives their institutional and major private clients up-to-the-minute data and a distinct advantage in the multifamily investment marketplace. Their success is so well-deserved, and I look forward to our continued work together on behalf of multifamily investors in Arizona and throughout the West.”

“It’s an honor to carry the distinguished title of executive managing director,” added David. “Both with respect to the firm’s rich tradition and as an emblem of sorts – a testament to the many clients that have entrusted our team to execute their investment sales transactions on their behalf.”

David began his career as a sales intern with Marcus & Millichap in 2002, became an associate in 2004 and in 2005 was recognized as Marcus & Millichap’s Top First Year Agent for its Arizona offices. He achieved the firm’s senior managing director designation in 2017. David holds a B.S.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Arizona and is a member of the National Multi Housing Council and Arizona Multihousing Association.

Gebing joined his childhood friend David at Marcus & Millichap in 2006 after spending nearly seven years at IBM, where he served as the worldwide sales and marketing manager for IBM’s emerging storage virtualization software at corporate headquarters in New York. Gebing joined the Institutional Property Advisors’ division of Marcus & Millichap in 2014 and achieved senior managing director status in 2017 alongside David. He graduated from the University of Arizona summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in management information systems and received a Master of Science in technology commercialization from The University of Texas at Austin, earning the George Kozmetsky Award for Academic Excellence.

“When you’re young, recognition is a great motivator,” adds Gebing. “However, as you age, you realize that recognition has little to do with yourself and that surrounding yourself with the right people matters the most. I’ve been blessed with a supportive wife and two wonderful children, a childhood friend as my business partner, loyal clients that have transitioned into lifelong friends, and an incredible support system within the firm. With that said, this recognition is a great milestone to reflect upon what makes life so fulfilling … personal relationships.”

With over 2,000 investment sales and financing professionals located throughout the United States and Canada, Marcus & Millichap is a leading specialist in commercial real estate investment sales, financing, research and advisory services. Founded in 1971, the firm closed 9,726 transactions in 2019 with a value of approximately $50 billion. Marcus & Millichap has perfected a powerful system for marketing properties that combines investment specialization, local market expertise, the industry’s most comprehensive research, state-of-the-art technology, and relationships with the largest pool of qualified investors.
