Ware Malcomb, an international design firm, announced that Douglas Gullo has been promoted to Principal; Henry Chan has been promoted to Studio Manager, Architecture; and Minh Nghiem, PE, has joined as Civil Engineering Manager in the firm’s Phoenix office.
In his new role as Principal, Douglas Gullo leads the growth and management of the Phoenix office. With more than 30 years of architecture, design and business development experience, Gullo’s career is highlighted by award-winning master planning and design excellence in office, medical, retail, industrial, resort and entertainment projects.
“In his six years with Ware Malcomb, Doug’s dedication and passion have fueled significant growth in Architecture, Interiors and Civil Engineering in the Phoenix office, making us one of the largest design firms in Arizona,” said Kevin Evernham, Regional Vice President. “His strategic vision and collaborative approach have expanded our presence and strengthened our reputation as a leader in innovative design solutions in the region.”
Gullo is the design author for many successful office, retail, industrial and medical buildings in the Greater Phoenix market. He earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Arizona.
With his promotion to Studio Manager, Architecture, Henry Chan will play a pivotal role in overseeing Ware Malcomb’s industrial, manufacturing, and commercial project teams while mentoring and contributing to the growth and development of team members in the Phoenix office. Chan brings more than 30 years of architectural design expertise to his role, having worked on various project types including commercial, educational and multifamily.
“Henry has been instrumental in establishing and broadening Ware Malcomb’s Phoenix portfolio,” said Gullo. “His steady approach and keen execution have been key in building long-term relationships with some of our most important local clients, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved promotion.”
Chan’s resume includes projects ranging from 1,000 square feet to 2.7 million square feet, with building types such as sports facilities, industrial warehouses, commercial offices, medical offices, office condominiums, public schools, private schools, auto dealerships, single family, multifamily and tenant improvements. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
Chan previously served his community on the board of directors for KEEN Phoenix, a nonprofit organization that provided recreational opportunities for children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities at no cost to their families or caregivers.
Minh Nghiem brings more than ten years of experience in civil engineering design, project management, and client management to his new role. A licensed engineer in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Kentucky, his extensive civil engineering and land development capabilities cover all aspects of commercial, self-storage, office, retail, and residential.
“Minh adds valuable, in-depth experience in land development and construction administration to our team, particularly given his track record developing, designing, and building self-storage facilities in the Phoenix Metropolitan area,” said Matt Kuehn, Director, Civil Engineering. “We are excited to welcome him and look forward to his contributions to the growth of the office and our civil engineering practice.”
Nghiem completed his undergraduate and graduate education in Nashville, TN, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lipscomb University and Master of Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University. In addition to his role at Ware Malcomb, Nghiem serves as an adjunct instructor at Vanderbilt University.
