Phoenix Art Museum will open October with a free First Friday celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, featuring art, live music, hands-on activities and programming inspired by vintage travel, Route 66 and roadside adventures.

The evening takes inspiration from the Museum’s current exhibition, Modern Treads: The Discount Tire Poster Collection, which explores the intersection of graphic design, advertising and automotive culture through historic tire posters.

Visitors can create personal illustrated maps with local artist and cartographer Jen Urso, design tire-tread postcards with printmaker Olivia Yuen and meet members of C10 Girls Cultura, a community celebrating women with a shared passion for classic C10 trucks. Cycle AZ 66 will also be on-site highlighting cycling experiences along Route 66.

Guests can visit the PhxArt Archives’ On the Record exhibition and create a souvenir magnet, while the Arizona Office of Tourism will showcase travel experiences from across the state. The evening will also feature a photo booth from PARC PHX, live music from DJ Joseph Torres and food from Rosie’s Inspired Kitchen.

At 6 p.m., Phoenix Art Museum will screen Little Miss Sunshine in celebration of the Route 66 centennial and Modern Treads. Film admission is separate from First Friday, with tickets free for Museum members and $10 for non-members.

First Friday general admission is free from 5 to 8 p.m. Phoenix Art Museum is located at 1625 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.
