Arcosanti is pleased to announce two clay pit-firing weekend workshops this spring. The first workshop will take place Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. The second runs from Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, May 19. Each two-day workshop allows participants to learn an ancient form of firing pottery that uses natural materials and requires no gas or electricity.
Timeline is as follows for both workshops:
Day One: Saturday –
- 10 a.m. Decorate vessels and learn about burnishing
- Noon Lunch in the Café
- 2 p.m. Load and fire earth pit
- 6 p.m. Potluck community dinner
- 7 p.m. Presentation on land stewardship and indigenous pit-firing
Day Two: Sunday ‑
- 9 a.m. Nature hike along the Agua Fria
- 11 a.m. Brunch in the Café
- 2 p.m. Unload earth pit-firing, discussion on ways to finish
Course will be led by Shanta Ambady. Cost is $325 (lunch and brunch included).
