Suns Create ‘Smart Arena’ at US Airways Center

The Phoenix Suns Feb. 27, 2015

The Phoenix Suns are transforming US Airways Center into one of the league’s “smartest” arenas, with the integration of iBeacon and mobile payment technology designed to create a fan experience unlike any in sports. The upgrades are part of a continued, collaborative vision between the Suns, Verizon Wireless and Levy Restaurants to utilize emerging technology to develop a Technology Wonderland at the Suns’ home.

“Today’s fan experience is more technology-driven than ever before. And, while many new venues have been quick to adopt the latest technology, we are extremely proud to have identified a model that has kept US Airways Center – at 22 years old – on the cutting edge,” said Jason Rowley, Phoenix Suns president. “Together with Verizon and Levy, we have again introduced technology that will offer our fans a first-class experience from the moment they enter our building.”

The integration of iBeacon technology will offer Suns fans unique opportunities and experiences such as free seat upgrades, locker room tours, autographed merchandise and other game-night incentives. Fans who download the Suns mobile app, powered by Verizon, and enable their GPS and Bluetooth, can opt-in to receive these exclusive offers. The Suns iBeacon program is currently available to those fans with an iOS compatible smartphone.

In addition, the Suns have partnered with Levy Restaurants to launch contactless mobile payment options at 161 terminals across all dining destinations at the arena. Fans can now check out more conveniently and securely through their smartphones, using Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

“The next generation of sports and entertainment venues utilizes advanced technology with personalized amenities to create truly seamless guest experiences,” said Andy Lansing, president and CEO of Levy Restaurants. “Through a data- and technology-driven approach, and drawing from our restaurant roots and knowledge of the local culinary scene, we’re committed to partnering with the Suns as they continue building an elite sports and entertainment destination.”
