8-Bit Brewery Now 8-Bit Aleworks; Name Change to Better Highlight Focus on Craft Beer

8-Bit Aleworks August 4, 2015

8-Bit Brewery, a microbrewery in the West Valley with a retro gaming theme, has just announced a change to its brand. By changing the name from 8-Bit Brewery to 8-Bit Aleworks, the owners hope to emphasize the focus on their hand-crafted beer. In the Greater Phoenix area, many of the local microbreweries operate as brewpubs that offer both a brewery and restaurant in one experience. 8-Bit’s owners want to make it clear that their only focus is on creating high-quality craft beer. They believe the new name better reflects that purpose.

“Brewpubs are a fantastic business model, and we’re lucky to have so many really fantastic ones in the Phoenix area,” said co-owner Krystina Whitten. “But we simply didn’t approach our brewery that same way, and we’re really trying to better represent our model and intentions.”

Though no food is made in the tasting room, the brewery has invited food trucks to serve customers on Friday nights. During the rest of the week, customers are welcome to bring in other food or have it delivered directly to the brewery. On occasion, 8-Bit Aleworks will even offer beer pairing dinners in conjunction with some of the food trucks. The first will be held on Wednesday, August 19 with a menu created and cooked by Frites Street.

Between the absence of food and the industrial location, 8-Bit Aleworks is intended to be reminiscent of many of the microbreweries in San Diego and other popular beer cities. “When I first started into craft beer, some of my first visits to breweries were in the San Diego area. I loved the production brewery model and the industrial locations had a certain charm to me, so when it came time to find a location I focused very heavily on these areas. Food trucks give us a rotating menu, and still allow our guests the opportunity to bring their own food so that no matter what someone feels like eating, they can enjoy it in our tasting room with one of our beers,” said co-owner and head brewer Ryan Whitten. “We want the tasting room to be here for our guests, we’re just here to bring them the best beer possible.”

The owners hope to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where customers can spend time interacting with friends and family. 8-Bit Aleworks encourages guests to bring in their own games, but they also keep a selection of tabletops behind the bar. Several guests who frequent the brewery have been known to bring in their own televisions and consoles and invite other guests to join in. In the future, 8-Bit will install arcade cabinets and consoles of their own.
