June 5, 2013

Valley Leadership officers appointed to lead the board of directors for 2013-14 are:

President: Tony Moya (Valley Leadership Class 23) – Manager, Latino Relations, SRP

Vice President: Greg Ensell (Valley Leadership Class 26) – Manager of Government & Public Affairs, Cox Communications

Treasurer: Dave Bolman, Ph.D. (Valley Leadership Class 30) – Provost, University of Advancing Technology

Secretary: Amy Buchan (Valley Leadership Class 31) – Vice President of Strategic Alignment, Corporate Citizen

“I am pleased to have these effective and inspiring leaders step into positions of elevated leadership within our organization,” Executive Director Christy Moore said. “I’m confident that Valley Leadership will benefit from the collective skills and passion of these Officers and the full Board of Directors.”

2012-13 Board Chair Michael Crusa will retire as an Officer and lead Valley Leadership’s board nomination process.  “I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a dynamic group and, as a graduate of Valley Leadership Class 1, look forward to assisting and cultivating the next generation of board leaders,” Crusa said.

“We are grateful to Michael for his dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to Valley Leadership,” Moya, President-Elect, said. “He has played a key role in strengthening the organization throughout his years of service on Board.”

During his chairmanship, Crusa guided Valley Leadership through several significant transitions, including the hiring of Executive Director Christy Moore and the development of the 2012 strategic plan, which will direct the organization’s work through December 2015.  As a direct result of the strategic planning process, the Board of Directors commenced substantial governance work under Crusa’s leadership, which it will continue through December of this year.

Valley Leadership’s financial health continues to be strong, partially as a result of the record funds raised by the 64th Annual Man & Woman of the Year Luncheon. The organization’s flagship program, the Leadership Institute, experienced increased demand for its program with a 10 percent increase in applications for the 35th class. The organization also secured notable strategic partnerships with Thunderbird School of Global Management, FirstStrategic Communications & Public Affairs, and the Phoenix Business Journal.

In 2012, Valley Leadership made a major investment in membership and alumni engagement, expanding the agency’s fulltime staff, investing in continued program enhancements, and placing renewed focus on traditional alumni programming including exclusive tour experiences and the respected Community Dialogue Series.

Also serving on the Valley Leadership Board of Directors are Victor Aranda, Regional President, Northern Arizona, Wells Fargo; Ginny Arnett Caro, Vice President of Claims Services, SCF Arizona; Marci Hendrickson, Vice President – Administration, Mountain Vista Medical Center, IASIS Healthcare; Jenny Holsman Tetreault, In-House Counsel, Rural/Metro Corp.; Sarah Krahenbuhl, Director, Phoenix Suns Charities; Elizabeth Krecker, Director of Marketing and Public Relations – Arizona and Utah, IASIS Healthcare; Alberto Olivas, Director, Center for Civic Participation, Maricopa Community Colleges; Benah Parker, Professional Development Curriculum and Content Leader, GoDaddy; Tim Pickering, CEO, Interim Public Management; and Brad Vynalek, Attorney, Quarles & Brady LLP.
