Sprouts Partners with Vitamin Angels to Provide Vitamins to One Million Undernourished Children

picFor the third consecutive year, Sprouts Farmers Market is partnering with the nonprofit Vitamin Angels to support health and nutrition for children. Sprouts aims to help connect one million undernourished children with life-changing and lifesaving nutrients through in-store campaigns at more than 210 locations in August and October. The partnership has provided vitamins to more than 400,000 at-risk children over the last two years.

Recently, four Sprouts team members visited Haiti with Vitamin Angels to learn firsthand the dramatic impact vitamin A, prenatals and children’s multivitamins can have on the health and wellness of undernourished youth. The team members traveled to two cities, Leogane and Port Salut, to meet with mothers and children at partnering health clinics. They learned that just two doses of vitamin A per year can greatly improve a child’s health, energy and physical development.

“It was very humbling and eye-opening to see and learn about such widespread undernutrition in communities across the world,” said Diana Lucas, vice president of vitamins and body care at Sprouts. “One of the greatest things about working at Sprouts is having the ability to make a difference not only in our communities but with our partners such as Vitamin Angels.”

From Wednesday, July 29 to Wednesday, August 26, Sprouts customers can purchase any product tagged with an angel and 25 cents will be donated to give an at-risk child life-changing vitamins. Twenty-five cents is all it takes to give a child life-changing vitamins for an entire year. Guests can choose from more than 1,000 vitamins and supplements in the store from 63 participating brands. Additionally, Sprouts is matching up to $10,000 worth of donations made through the promotion to Vitamin Angels.

The second in-store fundraiser, a register round-up, will be held Wednesday, October 21 to Wednesday, October 28. At checkout, participants can simply ask to have their purchases rounded up to the nearest dollar, or make a $1, $5 or $10 donation. One-hundred percent of the funds raised in both promotions will be donated to Vitamin Angels.

“The synergy between the culture at Sprouts and Vitamin Angels makes this partnership truly special. We value Sprouts’ commitment in their recent visit to Haiti and their fundraising to help improve the lives of many at-risk children,” said Howard Schiffer, president and founder of Vitamin Angels.

According to The Lancet, undernutrition is the number one cause of preventable child death. Essential nutrients, especially vitamin A, are critical to the proper functioning of the immune system, giving children the strength to ward off infection and disease. By providing vitamin A, Vitamin Angels is helping children attain good health and giving them the opportunity to lead meaningful and productive lives.

Vitamin Angels helps at-risk populations in need—specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five—gain access to lifesaving and life changing vitamins and minerals. Vitamin Angels works to reach underserved communities across the U.S. and in more than 50 countries around the world. Vitamin Angels has received eight consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator for Financial Health, Accountability and Transparency.
