Phoenix Zoo Closes, Citing ‘Health and Safety of Our Community’ as Top Priority

Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 crisis in Arizona. Given the continued rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, and after much deliberation and careful consideration for the well-being of our staff, guests, animals and the community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors once again to foot traffic effective immediately.

While the safety measures and precautions we have had in place are outstanding, we have been listening to the health experts and concerns of the community and want to do our best to help mitigate the rise of this terrible disease affecting so many.

With that in mind, and the recent success of the Zoo’s socially distanced experience, Cruise the Zoo drive-thru, we will continue to offer this as an option to see our beautiful grounds and amazing animals. The next opportunity to Cruise the Zoo is August 6 – 10, and all details can be found at phoenixzoo.org.

Memberships will once again be placed on hold so our valued and loyal members will not lose any time on their annual commitment. For those guests who have pre-purchased tickets to visit the Zoo, we are happy to accept those tickets at a later date once we reopen.

The health and safety of our community and fulfilling our mission to inspire people to care for the natural world remain our top priorities. We have virtual and engaging programs available at phoenixzoo.org and will continue to build this online resource to keep our devoted audience engaged and educated about a vast array of species who call the Zoo home, and the many more animals in the wild.

We will continue to monitor the data and adjust our plans for a reopening as appropriate.
