Nexstar Broadcasting Names Denise McManus to Phoenix Operations

Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. has appointed Denise McManus as vice president and general manager of KASmcmanusW-TV (CW) and the station’s associated digital operations, serving the Phoenix DMA. McManus’ appointment is effective immediately, and she will report to Brian Jones, co-chief operating officer of Nexstar Broadcasting. Nexstar agreed to acquire the assets of KASW-TV in October 2014 and the acquisition closed on January 30, 2015. Nexstar Broadcasting Group is a leading diversified media company that leverages localism to bring new services and value to consumers and advertisers through its traditional media, digital and mobile media platforms.

Denise McManus has more than 15 years of broadcast television and advertising experience with expertise in local and national marketing, new business development, and strategic planning. Prior to joining Nexstar, she was vice Ppresident of Sales for Comcast NBC Universal’s Telemundo stations KTAZ-TV and KHRR-TV, serving the Phoenix and Tucson DMAs. During her tenure at Telemundo, McManus developed and led highly effective teams and implemented sales, marketing and new media initiatives that resulted in increased market share and profitability at both stations. Under her leadership, McManus established successful sales strategies that resulted in local and national revenue growth, elevated productivity and operational efficiencies while simultaneously improving customer retention.

Before relocating to Phoenix in 2012, McManus was director of Sales for Comcast, where she was responsible for the advertising sales division of the CN8 Network. Prior to that, she was a senior account executive at WCAU-TV (NBC) in Philadelphia. McManus began her broadcasting career in 1988 with Fox Broadcasting first as an Account Executive at WJBK in Detroit, MI and then WFLD-TV in Chicago, IL before ascending to the role of National Sales Manager of WJBK-TV in Detroit, MI.

Commenting on the appointment, Brian Jones stated, “Denise is a results-driven leader with extensive experience in station management, local and national sales, and strategic planning across multiple operating units and media platforms. With her local broadcasting expertise, strong client relationships, and dedication to the local Phoenix communities that she serves, we are confident in Denise’s ability to provide effective leadership at KASW-TV.”

McManus attended University of Michigan. Denise currently serves as member of the Broad of Directors for Keogh Community Heath. She is also a current member of Valley Leadership, class of 36, an organization that empowers current and emerging leaders to strengthen the Phoenix community. In 2012, she was selected to participate in the Leadership Essentials Executive Training program through NBC Universal. Ms. McManus was also the 2011 recipient of the Kentucky Colonel Award, the highest humanitarian award bestowed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In 2010, the U.S. flag was flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. in her name in recognition of her humanitarian work.
