Local Arizona Insurance Professionals Pick Up Their Golf Clubs for Charity

Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation March 15, 2016

On Thursday, February 25th, more than 120 Arizona insurance professionals gathered to raise over $27,000 in support of local nonprofits at the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s second annual Swing for the Green Charity Challenge. Held at Top Golf Scottsdale, this event brought the local insurance industry together for a fun-filled night of celebration and philanthropy.

During this evening of golf games at Top Golf’s interactive driving range, insurance professionals participated in friendly competition, with Crest Insurance taking home first place as the golfing team champion. Coming in second and third place were AAA Insurance and First Insurance Funding.

Once the golf games concluded, representatives from two Arizona nonprofits were on hand to accept grant awards on behalf of their respective organizations. The organizations – notMYkid and Rio Salado College – received grants from the local Arizona Chapter of IICF’s Community Grants Program.

notMYkid, a nonprofit organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona, educates youth, families, and communities about destructive youth behaviors. Through its use of peer educators, speakers, and positive messaging, notMYkid aims to create emotional connections with the community to engage with individuals and promote positive life choices.

Rio Salado College offers a variety of community-based programs and services to help its diverse student population achieve their educational goals. In attendance at the event to accept the award was Mr. Otis White, Faculty Chair, Business & Public Administration for the organization. Mr. White actually worked with members of the local insurance industry actually to create the curriculum, which supports insurance scholarships for the “Certificate of Completion in Insurance Studies.”

This event owes much of its success to its generous sponsors within the insurance community, including AmWins Brokerage of Arizona, BraodStreer, Chubb Insurance Group, CopperPoint, Southwest Risk, Liberty Mutual Insurance, First Insurance Funding, and International Marine Underwriters.

Since its inception in 1994, IICF has contributed $25.3 million in grants to charities and 218,722 volunteer hours to hundreds of community nonprofit organizations. The focus areas of the Arizona Chapter specifically champion the causes of child abuse prevention, disaster preparedness, education, and health & human services. As the Arizona Chapter continues to expand through grants, volunteer service and leadership, the chapter’s passion for giving back also increases.

As evidenced by the amount of funds raised during this event, the Swing for the Green Charity Challenge serves as another testament to the dedication of local insurance professionals to supporting the communities in which they live and work. In just a few hours (and a few hundred swings of the clubs), the insurance industry truly made a difference in the lives of local neighbors.
