David J. Barnett and Frederick M. Pakis Join The Phoenix Symphony’s Board of Directors

The Phoenix Symphony Association is pleased to announce that David J. Barnett and Frederick M. Pakis have joined its Board of Directors.

“Barnett and Pakis bring exceptional business acumen to our Board of Directors,” said C.A. Howlett, Chairman of the Board for The Phoenix Symphony. “We are delighted that they are joining the Board. Their business experience will further help the Symphony achieve its goals.” he added.

David J. Barnett serves as the Managing Director at Columbia West Capital, a premier investment bank in Scottsdale. Prior to this, Mr. Barnett spent eight years at Morgan Stanley as an Associate Vice President and he also functioned as Director of Equity Capital at International Capital Partners (ICP). Through his experience, he worked with owners and operators of businesses, developed expertise in raising equity capital, sourced debt financing, and also negotiated complex U.S. and international operating and development agreements.

An active member of our community, Barnett was Chairman of the City of Scottsdale Planning Commission, past Trustee and Treasurer of the Desert Botanical Garden, International Leadership Committee member on the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) and is continuously contributing to a variety of other volunteer organizations. He proudly represents Arizona State University, where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science. He furthered his studies at the highly selective College of William and Mary, earning his Masters of Public Policy – Regulatory Affairs.

Frederick M. Pakis formed Clarendon Capital Management, LLC, a private investment firm and family office, where he serves as Managing Director. In 1985, Mr. Pakis co-founded JDA Software, Inc. serving as President, Co-CEO and Co-Chairman of the Board up until 2000. Headquartered in Scottsdale, JDA Software, Inc. has thirty-one offices in major cities around the world.

Pakis has been Trustee of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Arizona Opera, the Phoenix Country Day School, and Arizona’s Nature Conservancy. He earned his BS degree in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University. He was elected a Sloan Fellow at the London Business School and received an MA degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In 2009, he was elected to the board of the Arizona Community Foundation and he currently serves on the Global Advisory Board of the London Business School. Furthermore, Mr. Pakis is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Fletcher School and is the Chairman of the Pakis Family Foundation.
