Saddleback, the $1 billion, 5,300-acre master-planned community under development in Peoria, announced construction is officially underway on Basecamp, its $10 million signature destination designed to serve as the social and recreational hub of the community.
Slated to open in summer 2027, the approximately 16-acre site will feature an expansive collection of amenities and gathering spaces. Created to foster a sense of community, Basecamp will bring residents together through a dynamic mix of indoor and outdoor settings complementing the surrounding Sonoran Desert.
Low-profile architecture, shaded retreats and layered desert landscaping will create a seamless connection to the natural landscape. Indoor and outdoor spaces flow together, creating flexible areas for gathering, dining and community programming. A resort-style pool anchors the outdoor recreation zone, surrounded by shaded lounging areas, lush courtyards and a dedicated splash pad.
Basecamp will feature an array of amenities designed to support recreation, relaxation and community connection, including a 10,000-square-foot event lawn for community events, celebrations and outdoor programming; outdoor lounges, games and grilling areas; and dedicated space for food trucks. For residents looking to stay active, Basecamp will also feature a quarter-mile bike pump track, a dedicated bike barn and outfitter, a climbing boulder and a 200-step fitness challenge offering an elevated workout. A fitness programming space will also provide opportunities for organized wellness and fitness activities.
The project brings together Collaborative Design Studio for architecture, RVi for landscape architecture and Primak Construction Group as general contractor, creating a cohesive destination rooted in the character of the Sonoran Desert.
“Basecamp is truly the heart of Saddleback. It’s a place where residents can come together, stay active, enjoy the outdoors and build connections,” said Carlee Ryan, vice president of development at Castle Hill Partners. “Our partners at Collaborative Design Studio and RVi knocked it out of the park, creating a thoughtful design that works in harmony with the Sonoran Desert. The start of construction marks a significant step forward as we continue bringing Saddleback to life.”
Construction of Basecamp follows the recent opening of Taylor Morrison’s model homes, with Lennar’s model homes anticipated to open soon as Saddleback builds momentum toward welcoming its first residents this fall.
Developed by Austin-based Castle Hill Partners, Saddleback is located approximately 40 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix and five miles from Lake Pleasant, offering convenient access to major employment centers including TSMC Arizona, the BNSF Industrial Park and the forthcoming Amkor facility, as well as nearby recreational destinations such as Quintero Golf Club and Scorpion Bay Marina.
Saddleback is a community rooted in outdoor living and connection to nature, underscored by more than 60 miles of trails, including the signature 13-mile Saddleback Trail connecting the community’s scenic summits. The trail network will serve as a defining feature of the wellness-forward lifestyle.
Upon full buildout, Saddleback is entitled for approximately 6,500 single-family homes, multifamily residences, resort-inspired amenities, a resort and up to 2 million square feet of commercial space.
