The Arizona Manufacturers Council celebrated Manufacturing Month by recognizing outstanding Arizona companies and individuals for their excellent work and advocacy on behalf of the Arizona manufacturing sector.

The award winners for 2022 were:

  • Small Manufacturer of the Year: Poly Print
  • Medium Manufacturer of the Year: TYR Tactical
  • Large Manufacturer of the Year: CalPortland
  • Excellence in Innovation: Heitek Automation
  • Excellence in Sustainability: Republic Services

“These companies represent the very best of manufacturing in Arizona,” Arizona Manufacturers Council Executive Director Grace Appelbe said. “They are deserving of the recognition they received today. The breadth of today’s award-winning industries – digital printing and packaging, defense, construction materials, automation, and environmental services – shows that manufacturers of all types can thrive in Arizona. Thanks to a business environment that is increasingly attractive to manufacturers because of Arizona’s tax, regulatory, and labor environment, it’s a sector that will only continue to grow.”

The AMC also recognized Mesa Mayor John Giles as the AMC Champion of the Year.

“Mayor Giles has made attracting leading-edge manufacturers to Mesa a priority, and he’s been wildly successful,” Appelbe said. “Already home to Boeing, companies like ElectraMeccanica, Meta and Apple have made major investments in Mesa. And soon, Virgin Galactic will be assembling next generation spacecraft in Mesa. Mayor Giles and his colleagues on the city council deserve tremendous credit for making Mesa a manufacturing hotbed.”

In addition to the awards luncheon, the day also featured a discussion on research and development policy that included perspectives from Boeing, Honeywell, Intel and the Arizona Commerce Authority, and a presentation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on advancements in artificial intelligence technology.

Jay Timmons, president and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers, provided a keynote address. NAM is the nation’s most influential and respected manufacturing advocacy organization.

“We were honored to welcome Jay Timmons as our keynote speaker at this event recognizing the creators and innovators who help make Arizona one of the country’s best places for manufacturing,” Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Danny Seiden said. “Manufacturing could not ask for a better advocate for our sector than Jay, and we couldn’t ask for a better leader to join us to celebrate Manufacturing Month and the growth and excellence of Arizona manufacturing.”

The AMC continues the celebration of Manufacturing Month in two weeks with the annual Made in Arizona tour, which will feature behind-the-scenes tours of manufacturing facilities in Phoenix, Pinal County, and Tucson.
