Magellan Health March 3, 2016

Magellan Complete Care of Florida, a subsidiary of Scottsdale-based Magellan Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: MGLN), announced today that it has received three-year Medicaid-HMO Health Plan Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. Magellan Complete Care of Florida is the nation’s only Medicaid specialty plan for individuals with serious mental illness.

“We are gratified by NCQA’s accreditation, and what its designation means for our health plan,” said Kerry McDonald, CEO, Magellan Complete Care of Florida. “Magellan Complete Care of Florida’s unique model addresses members’ physical and behavioral health in a way that supports recovery and resiliency. We look forward to continue working with members, community organizations, providers and others in this innovative approach to healthcare.”

“This accreditation reflects the great work our team does on behalf of the individuals we serve,” said Dr. Karen Amstutz, chief medical officer of Magellan Health. “MCC of Florida illustrates Magellan’s unique approach to the management of complex populations and conditions. We’re gratified by this accreditation and what it represents.”

NCQA Health Plan Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to assess health plans. It evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system — physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services — in order to continuously improve healthcare for its members.

Magellan Complete Care of Florida focuses on Medicaid beneficiaries with a serious mental illness. Magellan has longstanding relationships in the state of Florida and a model of care developed by listening to the needs of the communities it serves. Magellan has combined its experience and resources with traditional health plan services to create a unique model of care that integrates the management of behavioral and physical health services. This enhanced coordination of the patient’s treatment plan and services will help improve the health of its members. Magellan Complete Care of Florida is available in 40 of Florida’s 67 counties.

Achieving NCQA Health Plan Accreditation is a process that includes rigorous on-site and off-site evaluations of over 60 standards and selected HEDIS® measures conducted by a team of physicians and health plan experts. A national oversight committee of physicians and health care providers analyzes the team’s findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the Health Plan’s performance compared to NCQA’s standards. Accreditation is granted for a period of three years to those plans/organizations that have demonstrated programs for continuous quality improvement and meet NCQA’s rigorous standards.
