Phoenix Suns Charities has announced that Director of Suns Charities Sarah Krahenbuhl will assume the role of executive director for the Suns’ philanthropic arm, effective July 1. The current executive director, Robin Milne, is making the transition back to private life.
“I am honored and humbled to have served the community in my role as Suns Charities Executive Director the past three years,” said Milne. “I recognized Sarah’s talent early in her tenure here, and am thrilled that together we accomplished our goal of energizing a new group of philanthropists around Suns Charities. I am delighted to have planned this transition with her and the Phoenix Suns Charities Board of Directors, and I am confident she will successfully lead Suns Charities into the future.”
During Milne’s three years as executive director, Suns Charities raised more than $3.5 million for Arizona children and their families. In addition, Milne led the creation and implementation of SunsCentral, a unique partnership with Central High School that has significantly increased the academic performance and graduation rate at the school. The program is the result of a $650,000 grant over three years, with a focus on four key factors: success in the classroom, attendance at school, mentoring and individual tutoring support.
“On behalf of the Phoenix Suns and Suns Charities Board of Directors, I would like to thank Robin for her great work as executive director,” said Robert Sarver, managing partner of the Phoenix Suns. “Robin oversaw some of the most successful years in Suns Charities history, and paved the way for Sarah to build on the momentum she created. I am confident that Sarah’s experience and passion for our community will allow her to thrive in her new role.”
Krahenbuhl has served as the director of Phoenix Suns Charities since June, 2012. In her role, she has launched a professional networking platform, Suns Charities 88, which has contributed nearly $600,000 to Phoenix Suns Charities since its inception. As part of the Suns Charities 88 project, Krahenbuhl also developed a new fundraising event, the “Slam Dunk” street ball, which continues to raise funds that support the Suns Charities mission.
“I am thrilled and honored to take the charity into the future as envisioned by our generous donors, the Board of Directors, and the entire Suns organization,” said Krahenbuhl. “I am especially excited by the strong engagement shown by our newly invested community members of Phoenix Suns Charities.”
Krahenbuhl is heavily involved in the community, currently serving on the board of directors for Valley Leadership and the Arizona State University Alumni Association Council, with previous board membership including Beads of Courage, The Melonhead Foundation and Valley Youth Theatre. Prior to joining Suns Charities, Krahenbuhl spent 10 years with the Phoenix Coyotes, serving as the executive director of Phoenix Coyotes Charities, as well as the team’s director of Community Relations & Fan Development.
Suns Charities has been focused on making our community a better place since 1988. Since its inception, Phoenix Suns Charities has invested more than $15 million in our community. The Suns philanthropic arm enjoyed another strong year in 2014, raising more than $1.2 million for Arizona non-profits.
