SUBWAY® Restaurants of Arizona Supports Special Olympics Arizona; Donates 130 Lunches to 5th Annual Over the Edge Challenge

SUBWAY® Restaurants of Arizona | Dec. 14, 2017

SUBWAY® Restaurants of Arizona was proud to donate 130 lunches to feed the volunteers at the 5th Annual Over the Edge Challenge benefitting Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) on December 9, a fundraiser that challenged members of the community to rappel down a 27-story skyscraper at Cityscape alongside SOAZ athletes. The donation was just the most recent example of SUBWAY’s partnership with the organization. Over the past decade, the local restaurant group – as well as its non-profit arm, Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona – has donated more than $75,000 in funds and food to the organization.

“Special Olympics Arizona’s work to empower both children and adults with intellectual disabilities through inclusive health, leadership and advocacy programs while providing year-round sports training and competition to them is something to be so proud of in this community,” said Mark Roden, a local franchisee and founder of Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona. “We always strive in whatever ways we can – be it through our recent You Share, We Share in-store campaign that raised $58,000 for the organization, through nonprofit grants we can provide via Subway Kids & Sports, and even food donations – to help them to continue to help others in their special way.”

“Special Olympics Arizona provides every person with intellectual disabilities a place of welcome, acceptance and the chance to be their best,” said CEO of SOAZ Tim Martin. “The practices learned in Special Olympics Arizona also impact their life skills. Sports’ training enhances focus and gives participants a structure for learning important lessons about perseverance, endurance and setting goals.”

The organization’s mission is to empower over 180,000 Arizonans with intellectual disabilities to be healthy, productive and respected members of society.
